The Future of Welland Hospital

Niagara Health is moving to a modern three-site hospital system, and Welland Hospital is staying open as a cornerstone of it. Here's what's confirmed for our hospital: the renovations, the expanded services, and the long-term vision, plus an honest look at what's still being decided.

Niagara Health · Three-Site System

Welland Hospital is staying — as a cornerstone.

Niagara Health is transitioning to a three-site system, with hospitals in St. Catharines, Niagara Falls, and Welland. The new South Niagara Hospital in Niagara Falls is under construction and is expected to open in 2028. Welland Hospital is not closing — it remains a cornerstone of the new system.

Straight Talk

What's decided — and what still isn't.

The vision is real and the planning is funded. But the full shape of Welland Hospital's services after 2028 has not been finalized yet.

Still being decided

Some reports indicate current plans may not include every service the hospital offers today — for example, acute care beds or an intensive care unit (ICU). Public consultation is planned to help shape the final decisions.

Where I stand

This is exactly why showing up matters. I'll keep this page updated as decisions are made, and I'll push to make sure Ward 2 residents have a real voice in the consultation.
